Press Release | BIFA has added a Dangerous Goods Awareness module to its Bitesize eLearning programme, further strengthening the training available to members of the trade association as part of their subscription benefits.
The Dangerous Goods Awareness module has been designed to provide essential knowledge for a wide range of roles within the logistics and freight forwarding sector. While particularly relevant for those directly handling dangerous goods, the course delivers valuable insight for all staff involved in the supply chain.
An overview is provided of the regulatory bodies that exist and their responsibilities.
Comprehensive information about the multiple varieties of dangerous goods and their corresponding classes forms a key part of the training, with explanations of UN numbers and the importance of the Dangerous Goods Note (DGN).
Advice on the safe packing, labelling and handling of these goods; ensuring compliance when moving this type of shipment; and the consequences and penalties that may result from non-compliance completes the package of information.
Since launching in February 2025, BIFA Bitesize has seen strong uptake, and more than 2,500 employees of BIFA corporate members have accessed the various modules, completing over 10,000 courses.
Carl Hobbis, member services director at BIFA, said: “BIFA Bitesize is a suite of eLearning that has been developed as part of BIFA’s ongoing commitment to provide a variety of training options, aimed at enhancing knowledge in areas critical to freight forwarding, customs compliance, and international trade.
“BIFA Bitesize gives full trading members unlimited access to eLearning as part of their membership fee. The response has been tremendous, and it’s proving to be a genuinely game-changing initiative for our sector.”
Steve Parker, director general of BIFA, added: “Available now via the BIFA Member Portal, this latest module responds directly to strong demand from members for accessible training on the movement of dangerous goods shipments.
“The new module reinforces our commitment to delivering high-quality training that has exceptional value. It supports both new entrants and experienced professionals, ensuring members’ staff have access to relevant, up-to-date learning.”
