Commenting on today’s government statement setting out how it is planning to respond to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East and continue to be responsible with the public finances, Steve Parker, director general of the British International Freight Association, said:
“BIFA welcomes the Chancellor’s focus on protecting consumers and tackling unfair pricing.
“It is also important to recognise that logistics providers operate on tight margins and are facing significant external cost pressures due to global disruption.
“We urge the government to avoid measures that would add further inflationary pressure, and will help them to fully understand how fuel price volatility impacts transport costs and our members operations.
“We need the government to work with the logistics sector to strengthen supply chain resilience and keep goods moving efficiently across the UK economy.”
