The Maritime Solent Awards celebrate the region’s outstanding maritime sector and the people who drive it to be a world-leading regional industry.
BIFA was selected as a finalist in the Diversity category based on its close collaboration with the South Hampshire College Group. The category, sponsored by the Royal Navy, recognises organisations that have demonstrated themselves to be changemakers in the realm of diversity.
Stuart Baker, managing director of Maritime Solent commented “Being shortlisted for the Maritime Solent Awards is a mark of distinction. It reflects not only BIFA’s excellence, but its contribution to a region that is leading the way in maritime innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth. We are proud to celebrate BIFA’s achievements and the role the trade association plays in shaping the future of the Solent.”
The outcome of the collaboration was that a truly diverse group of people were able to be trained in skills highly relevant to logistics businesses enabling them gain employment and progression in their careers.
BIFA also facilitated sessions where the young freight forwarders within its members’ businesses to come into the college and speak directly to students; providing insights into the career opportunities available in logistics and freight forwarding. The engagement amongst the young forwarders and students is ongoing and is making a real difference to the career choices made by the student population.
Although BIFA did not win the award this year, being selected in the final three from many other nominated organisations reflects the impact BIFA has made through this collaboration with the South Hampshire College Group.
BIFA continues to strongly promote diversity across the logistics sector and would like to thank its members for their support of this initiative which we intend to grow and develop; not just in the Solent region but with colleges across the UK.
BIFA’s latest feature episode of BIFA TV focuses on our collaboration and the need for members across the UK to engage with their local schools and colleges.
BIFA expresses its sincere thanks to the team at the South Hampshire College Group who are highly proactive and committed to all aspects of the work we are doing together. The awards evening, brilliantly organised by Maritime Solent, reflected the vibrant maritime sector across the Solent region.
