BIFA welcomes the Department for Transport’s (DfT) announcement on 25 March of a £1 billion funding package dedicated to decarbonising the UK’s commercial vehicle fleet. This significant investment includes truck grants offering savings of up to £81,000 off the initial purchase price of the heaviest zero-emission vehicles. The funding also includes an extension of the depot charging scheme, which allows businesses to recover up to 70% of the costs associated with installing charging infrastructure, capped at £1 million.
Alongside this additional funding, BIFA calls for the expansion and modernisation of grid infrastructure to ensure that logistics hubs and depots can access the power required to support these new fleets.
