CLECAT (the organisation that represents freight forwarders and customs agents in Europe) has released this free resource in response to the increasing number of cargo theft incidents involving identity fraud, so-called “phantom carriers” and other deception-based schemes affecting the European logistics sector.
BIFA is sharing this guidance with its membership community to help members ensure that their procedures around due diligence are robust enough to safeguard against cargo theft, a type of organised crime that continues to affect our industry. To deepen their understanding, members can benefit from reading several case studies on organised cargo theft that have been shared within the document.
As well as sharing preventative measures on aspects such as insurance, carrier selection, verification, and secure digital communication, the guide also covers how members should respond in the event of an incident occurring to them, both internally within their organisation and externally with the relevant authorities.
