From 21:00 on Monday 23 June until September 2025, there will be a full closure of Gallows Corner junction, both roundabout and flyover. This is while works are undertaken to renew and strengthen the flyover.

Gallows Corner will be closed to all vehicle traffic, with only emergency vehicles, black cabs and TfL buses able to use the junction. Walking and cycling routes will be maintained.

No general traffic will be able to make journeys through Gallows Corner in any direction. This includes no access to or from the A127 Southend Arterial Road and A12 Colchester Road to the A12 Eastern Avenue or the A118 Main Road. Local diversion routes will be in place.

Roads in the local area to Gallows Corner junction and wider area are expected to be very busy. All vehicle journeys should expect to be disrupted for the duration of the closure.

Depending on the size and nature of your business, our key advice during the closure is to:

  • Communicate to your employees and suppliers that ongoing works at Gallows Corner are beginning on 23 June 2025, and journeys through the area will take longer and they may experience delays
  • Speak to your suppliers about whether they can re-time their deliveries and servicing trips to avoid peak times where possible – trips before 07:30 and after 19:00 are likely to be less busy
  • Understand the deliveries and servicing trips your business receives. Keeping a diary of all deliveries and collections at your company will help you decide whether you can reduce deliveries and servicing trips by streamlining your suppliers and the number of visits they make to your premises, and/or reducing personal deliveries to your employees

We have worked with leading businesses and fleet operators to find effective, cost-efficient ways to receive and make deliveries and service trips. There are toolkits to reduce and re-time deliveries, which will allow your business to stay resilient and continue to flourish in the city:
