The UK Government has announced that the planned physical and identity checks on medium-risk fruit and vegetable imports from the EU, previously scheduled to commence on 1 July 2025 under the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM), has been postponed until 31 January 2027.
This extension aligns with the proposed Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement between the UK and the EU.
Defra has confirmed that documentary checks will still take place, but the physical and identity checks will not be introduced as previously planned.
