We have received the following safety information from the Port of Felixstowe regarding HGV drivers leaving the Port in the early morning. We ask that this message is passed to your transport department as a matter of urgency.

There are currently overnight closures on the westbound A14 at Junction 51 (Needham Market). These closures are currently expected to be in place until February.

Safety concerns have been raised where some drivers are reaching the closure point and parking up on the A14 to await the road to open rather than travelling on the official diversion. This led to an incident this week where it was unsafe to remove the traffic management and caused delays into the morning.

As well as these actions being extremely unsafe, it is also illegal, and the police have been informed.

Please ensure all drivers use the diversion and do not to wait at the closure point on the A14.
