BIFA welcomes the recent announcement by the Department for Transport (DfT) regarding an £18 million funding boost for the Plug-in Truck Grant.
The funding significantly increases the discounts available for businesses looking to transition their fleets to zero-emission vehicles.
Effective immediately, the grant levels have been raised to help offset the higher upfront costs of eHGVs. The discounted rates are scheduled to remain in place until 31 March 2026. The updated grant enables operators to access savings up to £120,000 when buying a new electric truck. The new grant levels are outlined below:

While BIFA welcomes the uplift in funding, the current commitment lacks the long-term duration necessary for BIFA members to make confident investment decisions, with procurement cycles for HGVs spanning a number of years.
To align with the industry’s multi-year procurement cycles. BIFA advocates for a more permanent funding roadmap that replaces short-term windows with long-term stability.
