HMRC has notified BIFA about the launch of a new feature on the Online Trade Tariff (OTT) which allows traders to receive customised notifications about OTT changes specific to your business.

Please see the below HMRC guidance for more information:

The feature, developed in response to user feedback, is designed to reduce the time businesses spend monitoring tariff updates.

Using the new feature, businesses will receive timely alerts when data changes are published to the UK Tariff.

What this means for OTT users:

  • Less manual checking and reduced administrative burden
  • Faster visibility of changes that affect your goods
  • Improved compliance through timely, targeted updates
  • The ability to update or amend your alerts at any time

You can access the new feature here https://trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/subscriptions/start

The new feature has two optional sections, which you can use separately or together:

1. Commodity Watchlist

  • Upload a spreadsheet of the commodity codes you trade
  • Receive alerts when changes are made to the tariff database, such as measure updates
  • Review the change information online to see relevance to your business
  • Option to download the updated information to help refresh your business records. The download will also include the classifications of all the codes you have uploaded.
  • Upload a new spreadsheet at any time if your goods change (there is no limit to the number of commodity codes you can watch or how often you update them).

2. Stop Press Watchlist

  • Select the tariff chapters you’re interested in (or choose all chapters)
  • Receive email notifications when a Stop Press is published only for information relating to those chapters
  • Avoid having to review all Stop Press notifications manually

If you have feedback or experience any issues, please use the OTT enquiry form https://trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/enquiry_form

If you’d like to help shape future improvements to the Online Trade Tariff, you can volunteer to take part in user research and provide feedback on new features. Please contact online.tariff.feedback@hmrc.gov.uk
