In response to the data breach at Companies House, we raised Members’ concerns with the Agency and have received the following reply.

We recognise that this incident will have caused concern and inconvenience to many of the companies and individuals who rely on our services.

Please refer to our updates and information on GOV.UK. These offer further support and will continue to be updated as our investigation progresses:

Our CEO’s statement on Monday confirmed our investigation’s findings and what data may have been affected. At this stage, we have no confirmed reports of any data having been accessed without permission, and we believe the issue could not have been used to extract data in large volumes.

We’ve sent emails to all companies using their registered email address (a copy of the email is available here on GOV.UK), clarifying what’s happened and asking them, as a precaution, to review their filing history. If a company has any concerns, we’ve also provided further recommendations and guidance on what to do and how to contact us. We’re continuing to undertake extensive analysis of system records to identify any suspicious activity.   If we identify any unauthorised changes, we’ll work with companies to correct their records and take firm action against the user who made the filing.

Our most recently published GOV.UK guidance page provides further information and guidance for our users to address concerns. We’ll update this page as more information becomes available.

Companies House are taking this matter very seriously, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to support our customers.
