With cyber attacked becoming an increasing issue in 2025, the government has written a letter to UK companies urging them to take preventative actions.

Cyber-attacks in the UK have hardly been out of the news in 2025, with hits on major retailers such as the CO-OP and M&S. We have also already seen significant attacks on major manufacturers such as Jaguar Land Rover.

These incidents are growing more intense, frequent, and sophisticated. In light of recent cyber incidents, the government has written to leading UK companies with urgent advice to help ensure they are best protected against cyber threats.

The letter sets out 3 actions large businesses can take to improve their cyber resilience:

  1. Make cyber risk a Board-level priority using the Cyber Governance Code of Practice guidance
  1. Sign up to the National Cyber Security Centre’s Early Warning service
  1. Implement Cyber Essentials in your supply chain to protect your business

This letter is being sent to all companies in the FTSE100 and FTSE250, as well as a number of other leading UK firms.

For smaller businesses, a free toolkit is now available to help protect against cyber threats.
